Open Foxie from the corner of any page, click the chat bubble, and ask a question. That's it.

If it's your first visit, a welcome card asks how you want Foxie powered: Quick start (hosted by us, 20 messages/day) or Your Google key (free from Google, no caps from us).

1. Visit aistudio.google.com/app/apikey.
2. Click "Create API key" — free, no credit card.
3. Copy the key (starts with AIza…).
4. In Foxie's settings, paste it into "Connect your Google key" and tap Verify.

The key is stored only in your browser's localStorage and is sent only to Google's API.

Standard — adults/older teens, default Google safety, all features.

Teen — stricter Gemini safety filters, warmer tone, page-aware still on.

Kids — maximum Gemini safety, locked to Companion personality, page-aware off.

Set a parent PIN to require it when switching modes.

Foxie surfaces Google Gemini's own four safety categories: harassment, hate speech, sexually explicit, and dangerous content. Each has four thresholds (Block none → Block most). These match Google AI Studio exactly.

Per-category sliders are available with your own Google key (BYOK). Quick start uses the recommended preset for your Family mode.

Companion is warm and chatty, Coach is structured and goal-oriented, Performer is playful and witty. Switch from settings; Foxie remembers per browser. Kids mode locks Companion.

Off by default. When on, Foxie sends the page title, your selected text, and a short excerpt with each question — nothing else. Kids mode forces this off.

Tiny notes Foxie keeps per website (e.g. "I'm learning Spanish here"). Stored locally only, never synced. Clear individually or all at once from settings.

Optional 4-digit PIN. When set, switching Family mode requires it. Soft lock — see the parents guide for what it does and doesn't cover.

Forgot it? Clear Foxie's data in your browser to reset (this also clears notes and settings).

• "Key rejected" — re-copy from Google AI Studio, watch for trailing spaces.
• "Daily limit reached" on Quick start — switch to BYOK or wait 24h.
• Foxie won't open — refresh the page; if it persists, clear site data and reload.
• Kid bypassed Family mode — set a parent PIN. Note client-side limits in the parents guide.
